Snap! Space proudly presents new works by legendary NYC photographer JAMEL SHABAZZ, while introducing works by Philadelphia-based artist SHAWN THEODORE. Exhibition curated by Patrick & Holly Kahn.
Native Brooklynite and chronicler of street fashion, Jamel Shabazz has spent the last 40 years photographing New York City life. A documentarian of African-American culture, he embarked on a mission to photograph various aspects of life from youth culture to a wide range of social conditions. Shabazz is the author of 5 monographs and has contributed to numerous others. He is presently working on a new book, titled “The Book of Life.”
Shawn Theodore / xST is a multidisciplinary Philadelphia-based artist working in photography, video, and collage. His practice focuses on the fragmentation and manipulation of African American and African Diasporan identities and otherness, while exploring concepts of race, spirituality, patriarchy, matriarchy and class structure within disappearing Black communities.
