Eye of an Era: Chuck Stewart
Snap! Space presents Eye of an Era: The Photographic Legacy of Chuck Stewart. Exhibition curated by Patrick and Holly Kahn, with deep appreciation, and special thanks to Kyle Eagle for his passion of Jazz, and for introducing us to Kim Stewart, and the Chuck Stewart Estate.
Charles Stewart [1927-2017] was an American photographer best known for his portraits of jazz singers and musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, and Miles Davis. His career spanned over 70 years, and he photographed for more than 2000 albums. Many of his works are archived at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Also shown are his photojournalistic works, bringing first-hand documentation of pivotal moments in history, and displaying the breadth of social issues Stewart has engaged with through his career.
